Welcome to the inception of Bellows Freifechter!
We have started up this website and Twitter feed (@BalgFreifechter) in order to provide easy access to information, training times, and upcoming special events. As part of the website, we'll have a blog that all students are invited to submit writing for if they would like to do so.
Freifechter is a Middle-High German word, which means Free Fighter or Free Fencer. As a group, we will be practicing Historical European Martial Arts, often referred to as HEMA, learning from historical sources. Our predominant focus will be on the works of Fencing Master Joachim Meyer in 16th century Germany.
HEMA is not role-playing, LARPing, or just wildly swinging swords. To the best of our ability, we will be interpreting and utilizing historically accurate forms and training tools, while using modern protective equipment to keep safety always at the forefront of our focus.
That being said, HEMA is a martial art, and occasional bumps and bruises are to be expected.
Bellows Freifechter will meet weekly, after school on Fridays from 3-4pm. At this time, we are just getting the club up and running, and starting to fundraise in order to purchase the necessary equipment we will need. Therefore we do not have a start date set for our regular Friday training sessions yet, but are trying to gauge student interest and numbers. As soon as we have our training gear, and have our official start date and training location set, we will share that information by way of Schoology, Weebly, and Twitter (see above).
If you have any questions, or would like to make a donation, please email Harold Vance at [email protected].
Thank you for your continued interest in and support of Bellows Freifechter.
